Happy New Year!
I mentioned in my last blog that I am initiating a new series of blogs called The Mystical Path. Did you enjoy the first one?
If you missed it, you can read it by clicking on the link at the bottom of the page.
Let’s continue exploring the mystical path.
Preparing to Embark on a Mystical Path
What preparation did I make to embark on the mystical path? This is a difficult question to answer, for I did not know that I was looking for a mystical path. I only knew, as many of you know, that I wanted a closer relationship with Jesus Christ and God. I wanted to know how to inhabit one of those many mansions that Jesus says are in his Father’s house. I must have one! Don’t you?
Seems that a prerequisite for stepping onto the path might be an inner knowing. What exactly is it that we have to know? First, we have to know that God is Real! She is as tangible as the chair on which you are sitting. When you know that God exists, then you desire to move closer to Him. You want to show your love to Her. You want to feel His love for you. In a word, this is faith, the evidence of things hoped for, the substance of things not seen. (Hebrews 11:1).
It need not be a blind faith for God will show Himself to you in myriad ways. Just start looking. God is in everything! There is nothing that was made that does not come from God’s creation. We have simply stopped noticing that God is omnipresent! She is in each bush, flower and blade of grass. And, if God is in nature, how much more must God be in you? This is the second key. We must see God in ourselves and others. Let go of your personality and what people say about you. Stop the negative self-talk and self-criticism. There is no human perfection. This, however, does not keep God from residing in you!
Have you made mistakes? So have I. Have you done things that were not nice? So have I. Have you messed up in school, at work, in relationships, with your kids or family? We all have. Still, without God, we would not be living, breathing persons. God is in all sentient life. Know that God is in you!
And if God is in you, She must be in all people. Can you see Him? It’s really not so hard if you stop looking at the outside of people and try to peer into their souls. That often means ignoring a person’s behavior. Sometimes it means not paying particular attention to their aura or emotional state. It certainly means looking past their age, skin color, height, weight, abilities, and attractiveness. What do we look at then? It is said that the eyes are the windows to the soul. When you look deeply into the eyes of another, do you see a spirit within? Even if you cannot, it is a great practice to try to see the God within.
If you can do this, it is what Catholics call “holding the Immaculate Concept,” a third key. Seeing all as perfect spirits in God takes practice. We got a clue that this was good when our mothers used to say, “If you cannot say something good about someone, don’t say anything at all.” Or Catherine Ponder has books of affirmations that use God’s name. One of my favorites is, “I Am the child of a rich and loving father.” I still smile when I say this. And, I turn it around and say it in my mind to others “You are the child of a rich and loving father.”
When you do this, people will feel it. You will find that, not only do you see them as better, they will also start to treat you better. It’s the energy that you send out returning to you multiplied. It is making contact from the spirit within you with the spirit within them. As you start to notice, you, too will say, such is the way of the mystical path.
How do you meet and recognize the spirit in others?
The Mystical Path will continue in February.
