All of us will, at one time or another have to deal with the loss of a close loved one. We may know, intellectually, that it is a transition of the soul from matter to spirit, yet we grieve. Losing parents, grandparents, siblings, or children from sudden deaths, such as accidents or violence or prolonged illnesses, provoke profound sorrow. Is it possible to grieve so deeply that it harms us? What lessons are we to learn from loss? What potential benefits might we gain from grieving?
